The West Coast, Unscripted

The Hawthorn Experience

The Hawthorn by Galway Bay sits in one of the most naturally beautiful corners of Ireland, and the experiences here are shaped entirely by that. Galway Bay on one side, Renville Woods on the other and a championship golf course running between the two.

Walk the coastal paths to the pier, swim in the bay at sunrise, lose an afternoon in the ancient woodland or spend the morning on the course with the Atlantic as your backdrop. For those who prefer to move at a slower pace, the spa is built for exactly that. A proper retreat, designed around stillness, elemental therapies and the kind of calm that takes a little longer to find elsewhere.

Beyond the property, Galway and the west coast open up a different kind of experience entirely. Boat trips on the bay, farm visits, oyster tastings straight from the source and a city that rewards wandering.

Whatever the day calls for, speak to our Guest Services team. They know this place better than anyone.

A Game Framed by the Sea

Designed by Ryder Cup legend Christy O’Connor Jr., the 18-hole, par-72 championship course stretches 7,300 yards along the edge of Galway Bay, with views reaching across to The Burren and Galway City beyond. Meticulously maintained and built around one of the most naturally striking settings in Irish golf.

Seaweed, Steam & Time Well Spent

Advanced therapies, genuine results and the Wild Atlantic as your backdrop. Tata Harper facials, Maison Caulières body rituals, TheraFace technology and a thermal journey that takes in copper seaweed baths, an outdoor heated pool and an infrared sauna. None of it to be rushed. Worth clearing the afternoon for.

Fire, Flavour & the Long Evening

Fire-led dining on the edge of Galway Bay. At the centre of The Skylark, a Vulcano charcoal grill glows from morning into evening, bringing smoke, warmth and a little theatre to the room. Atlantic seafood, aged cuts, seasonal sharing plates and a wine list that rewards those with nowhere to be.

Sushi, Cocktails & the View

The social heart of The Hawthorn, and a bar that takes its drinks seriously. Takashi Miyazaki, Michelin-starred at Ichigo Ichie in Cork, brings Japanese precision to Ireland’s natural larder. Behind the bar, the team works from its own fermentation and distillation laboratory. Sake, sushi, and the Wild Atlantic beyond.

The Art of Afternoon Tea

Light pours into The Aviary all afternoon, and nobody is in any rush. The tea collection is exclusive to The Hawthorn in Ireland, assembled by Jameel Lalani of Lalani & Co from rare, single-batch gardens across Japan, India, Taiwan and Nepal. Finger sandwiches, handcrafted pastries and Champagne alongside.

A taste of Old Ireland

Two hours, a warm kitchen and recipes passed through generations. Our Baker leads a hands-on workshop in traditional Irish bread and jam making, from mixing and shaping to the moment it comes out of the oven. Eat it warm before you leave, or take it home with the recipe. Either way, it won’t last long.

A Private Conversation With Wine

A private wine tasting with Lily Eloy, The Skylark’s Wine Buyer, set in the cellar where bottles rest at their best. This is a conversation with wine, not a lesson in it. We start with you, your taste and your language, then let each glass reveal itself sip by sip in real time.
